The Frankston City Council Meals on Wheels service has installed a new state-of-the-art commercial oven to meet increasing demand for delivered meals in the region.
Minister for Health David Davis and Member for Frankston Geoff Shaw today said the Victorian Coalition Government had delivered $40,000 to Frankston Council for a new and larger oven.
“Supporting senior Victorians to live active and independent lives is a key focus of the Coalition Government,” Mr Davis said.
“Delivered meals is a vital service aimed at helping those who want to remain independent in their homes and communities and close to friends and family for as long as possible.”
The Frankston City Council Meals on Wheels kitchen produces more than 60,000 meals per year, as part of the suite of Home and Community Care services provided by the Council .
Mr Davis said the new larger oven would help this service deal with increasing demand for meals generated by growth in the ageing population in Frankston.
“It will also assist in managing occupational health and safety issues in the kitchen and help with the overall efficiency of food production,” Mr Davis said.
“I would like to recognise and highlight the role the 120 volunteers play in the delivery of the Frankston City Council meals on wheels service.”
Mr Shaw said the Coalition Government recognised the importance of sustaining and supporting these volunteers in their work.
“I feel sure that seniors and younger people with a disability in the Frankston area appreciate the substantial hot meals provided by Council kitchen staff and the social contact provided by these volunteers on a daily basis,” Mr Shaw said
